PART 2: POLICE FOUND WHAT WAS HIDDEN IN HIS JACKET
The ballroom erupted into screams.
Vanessa knelt beside Derek, slapped his cheek, and began crying far too loudly, as if she wanted everyone to see how much she was suffering.
“Help him! Please, somebody help him!”
Three guests rushed forward. One was a doctor from Massachusetts General Hospital, another was a nurse, and the third, a friend of Caleb’s, worked in emergency medicine. They checked Derek’s pulse while someone called an ambulance.
Olivia remained standing in her white gown, the skirt falling to the floor, her bouquet hanging from her fingers.
Caleb stepped in front of her.
“Olivia, look at me. What do you know?”
She swallowed.
For years, she had said, “Nothing.”
Nothing when Derek sold their grandmother’s jewelry and blamed her.
Nothing when he forged her signature on a loan.
Nothing when he convinced their parents that Olivia was unstable because she refused to surrender her shares in the family company.
But that night, saying nothing could have destroyed her.
“He put something in my glass,” she said.
Caleb’s face changed.
He did not shout. He did not make a scene. He simply went cold.
“Did anyone record it?”
Olivia looked toward the corner of the ballroom.
“Maybe the videographer.”
Caleb turned at once.
“Ryan! Don’t delete anything. Not one second.”
Ryan Miller, the videographer, slowly lowered his camera.
“I haven’t deleted anything.”
Arthur pushed through the crowd toward Olivia, his face red with fury.
“What did you do to your brother?”
Olivia let out a dry laugh.
There it was.
Derek had collapsed after threatening her, and somehow she was still the one being accused.
Caleb stepped forward.
“Do not speak to my wife like that.”
“This is a family matter,” Arthur said.
“No,” Caleb replied. “This is an attempt to drug a bride at her own wedding.”
Silence dropped like stone.
